NUTRITION SERVICES
Nutrition Services of Shelby County was designed in 1996 for seniors over age 60, who are in need of a hot meal on a regular basis. Seniors may receive hot meals in one of two ways.
- Home Delivered Meals
- Congregate Dining
How to Apply
Seniors or family members are asked to call us at 937-492-6900 or e-mail dprater@fairhavenservices.com. Basic information needed is name, address, phone number, date of birth and emergency contact information. Further information may be required.
Home Delivered Meals
This service provides a nutritious meal in the home setting to seniors who may be unable to prepare meals for themselves, lack meal support in the home or to transition from a nursing facility or hospital back to home. This service is available through private-pay ($5.50 per meal.) Additional funding sources may be available with further eligibility criteria to receive Area Agency on Aging grant assistance.
CONGREGATE MEALS:.
The senior congregate dining program provides an opportunity to enjoy a nutritious meal with other seniors in a group setting which promotes socialization. This program is for seniors age 60 or over (and their spouses, regardless of age, when dining together.)
Nutrition Services of Shelby County currently has two congregate sites open in Shelby County.
- BREAKFAST VOUCHER PROGRAM: A breakfast program provides a hot breakfast for seniors. This program utilizes vouchers which are distributed 6 times a year. These vouchers are valid at Clancy’s Restaurant.
- SENIOR CENTER: Hot lunches are delivered to the Senior Center of Sidney-Shelby County Monday through Friday. These meals arrive at approximately 10:30 A.M.
At the current time our other congregate sites are on hold:
- Maple Leaf Diner at Fairhaven (for family/guests to enjoy a meal with residents),
- DayBreak Adult Day Services (for clients of this program)
- Paul’s Church in Botkins (Tuesdays)
